Going to the Fair

 

 

We had a fun day at the fair today. We looked at lots of animals and Keira got to ride the Merry-Go-Round for the first time. She was so excited. She has wanted to ride one for a very long time. She asked if she could ride the roller coaster but we said she had to wait until she was bigger. Who knew that girl had such a daredevil spirit after all?

Oh, and I know the picture with the two of us with the horse rears is really attractive. We both have weird faces and there are horse rear ends. Just part of the fun of the fair.

Ants on a Log

We were walking through the produce section today and Keira was as curious as ever about all of the different kinds of fruits and vegetables. I don't usually get anything too different. Usually apples, bananas, carrots, stuff like that. I am a real daredevil. She saw the celery and asked what it was and I told her it was celery and you could make something really cool called ants on a log with them. She asked what that was so I explained. She wanted celery right NOW! Well I wasn't going to argue so we got some celery and made ants on a log for lunch. She is eating them right now and loving them. She isn't too sure about the celery but she is eating some of it at least. She has never had celery before and I don't really like it (ok, I want nothing to do with it) but I try to get my girls to try things even if it isn't my favorite. I guess I should keep buying new things so that she can find out for herself if she likes them or not.

Rick's Work

As some of you know, Rick has been working from home for the past month or so. He has finally finished his 3D Citykit of Chicago and we are so happy. Here is a link to his site that he is selling it on so you can finally see what he does. I know when we tell most people that he makes 3d models of buildings they don't quite know what we are talking about. Now you know! I am so proud that he is doing what he has wanted to do for a long time. Now he is off to work in Seattle again for a while and he will be starting work on a 3d Citykit of Seattle with his lovely assistant, me! I am so proud of all of the hard work that he is doing to finally follow his dreams AND let me be a stay at home mom again. I couldn't ask for a better husband.

Tyra made me a header so I am done with my makeover. Thanks Tyra for all of your help. I am so lucky to have so many talented cousins! Now I can just sit back and enjoy the new look. Knowing me, it will be up for quite sometime. I am not big with changes. :)

Blog Makeover

So I decided it was time to remake my blog. Please let me know what you think. I still want to do something cool to the header but I am no good at coming up with these things so if you have any ideas let me know. Rick said he would help me but he never has time so I am not really counting on it. :) I loved that silhouette of the family that some of the cousins have on their blog so I stole that too. Rick says that it reminds him of us at church. Both of the kids going crazy while we are just trying to make it through three hours. Too funny.

The World's Next Mozart

Elaina loves to play the piano but she usually stands by it and plays it. Yesterday, Rick was trying to distract her while I was loading the dishwasher (she really likes to "help" with that chore) and he put her on the bench to play the piano. She absolutely loved it and then thought it was even more cool when I got out the camera. She didn't really smile since I had to use the flash but she is still cute! Notice that she finally her first hair cut. Her bangs were really in her face without a barrette. Thanks to Grandma Marcia for the cute hair cuts! (Keira got one too.)

Facing Your Fears

Keira has been afraid of the vacuum for most of her life. When she was a baby she didn't really mind it but as she got a little older she would scream bloody murder every time I vacuumed. I finally figured out it was best to vacuum when Rick was home because one of us could hold her, which would keep her semi-calm and the other could vacuum (the quicker, the better). We kept trying to explain that it couldn't hurt her, it was just loud, mom and dad were controlling it, nothing soothed her. It probably doesn't help that our dog is terrified of it also, and runs around the house and jumping all over the furniture while you vacuum.

Lately Keira has been getting better. She will usually just run in her room and bury herself in her bed while someone vacuums which is quite the improvement. I also let her put it away in the closet and this has helped. Today, I said I was going to vacuum and she asked if she could help. So I got it all set up and turned it on and she immediately bolted for her room. I kept asking if she still wanted to help but she wouldn't come out. I finally finished and was cleaning out the canister when she comes running out crying. We finally figured out that she wanted to help vacuum and was upset that I was putting it away. So I turned it on again and she bolted for the couch. I told her she needed to come help or else it was going away. She nervously climbed off the couch and took over. She vacuumed the whole hallway by herself and then helped put it away. She was so proud of herself and we are so proud of her!

By the way, Elaina is completely the opposite. She crawls (or now walks) up to the vacuum and smacks it and yells at it or tries to climb on and ride it. That girl is a daredevil.
